Recycling surf boards with Beach Care

SWM Manager, Phil Akers working with Beach Care

SWM & Waste Recycling Ltd has been working in collaboration with Beach Care and is reprocessing the polystyrene from discarded surf and bodyboards back into insulation blocks.

Saztainable has expertly removed the board covers to create cushions, purses and other handmade goods.

Quince Honey Farm staff have put their DIY skills to great use to create insulated Bee hives from the snapped boards.

Cornish Whispers will also be using the boards as insulation.

Beach Care have sent a big thank you to Beach ranger Holly Parkdean Resorts & Watergate Bay Hotel for helping to collect and store these boards. Exeter City Council South West Water for logistical support & Symages Photography for the photos.

The most important fact is that only a tiny percentage of the boards dumped in the South West this summer have been collected and recycled, too many are still heading to landfill or incinerators......
