Saturday 13thJuly saw SWM staff, family and friends come together to celebrate 60 years of serving North Devon.
Raymond Penfold and Shawn Akers were presented with two specially commissioned illustrations that depicted founder Raymond Penfold Senior and his wife Vashtie outside their South Molton home, on the site where the business was born. The pictures paid tribute to the company’s history from Penfold Metals to the million pound business that SWM is today.
Martin Mogford, SWM Managing Director acknowledged the company’s humble beginnings, the hard work and business acumen that have made the business what it is now.
Today SWM has services that span total waste management solutions and whilst scrap metal remains a core area of the business SWM also offer hazardous, confidential, cardboard, plastic and commercial waste management together with green vehicle parts. Martin said “The business has come a long way and today recycling and environmental concerns are front and center of business agendas and we are proud to be able to offer local businesses advice and services to enable them to comply with ever tougher waste management legislation. Our industry provides attractive career paths for individuals with an appetite to succeed.”
SWM hope to be working in partnership with Petroc to develop ‘trailblazing’ apprenticeship courses and Martin continued ‘We are pleased to be at the forefront of new initiatives and to help bring on local talent. The last few years have certainly been interesting and rewarding from both a business perspective and our ability to give something back to the North Devon community.
