SWM are pleased to announce further investment in their Recycling Service with the purchase of a new Polystyrene Compactor.
Polystyrene is favoured for its insulating and protective qualities, and is often chosen for use as protective packaging. Despite the attractiveness of the product it is large and bulky, and can take up significant space in waste bins, filling them up more rapidly and requiring them to be emptied more often. This can be expensive and time consuming.
Despite its bulk, Polystyrene is lightweight and can be blown around and cause a nuisance in surrounding areas. Meaning its disposal can be both financially and environmentally expensive.
SWM are now able to assist with these issues. Following the purchase of a Bergmann EPS Compactor, clean white polystyrene can be recycled. TheCompactor is designed to take loose polystyrene and turn it into compacted blocks. Screw technology in the bottom of a hopper breaks up the material and forces it through a channel to create the compacted solid block.
This densification of the material makes transportation more efficient, produces a product that can re-enter the supply chain, reduces instances of litter and diverts it away from landfill.
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is 100% recyclable and thousands of tonnes of polystyrene are recycled every year in the UK and turned into items like beach huts, picnic benches and picture frames.
